About Capt. Chris Myers

A Lifetime on the Water • 20+ Years Professional Guiding • FFI Certified

My story with the saltwater lagoons of East Central Florida began more than 30 years ago, well before I ever thought of becoming a guide. It started with a personal passion for understanding the unique ecosystem of Mosquito Lagoon and the thrill of sight fishing its shallow flats. That passion evolved into a full-time profession, and for over two decades, I've had the privilege of sharing my deep, first-hand experience with fellow anglers.

This page is about my journey, my qualifications, and my unwavering commitment to providing an exceptional and educational day on the water. My goal isn't just to help you catch fish, but to share the knowledge I've gained over a lifetime and create a memorable experience, whether you're a seasoned fly angler or a family looking to make new memories.

If you'd like to see the specific trips born from this experience, you can explore my sight fishing charters or learn more about my specialized fly fishing trips.

Credentials & Professional Recognition

My commitment to professionalism, safety, and the sport of fishing is reflected in my qualifications and affiliations with the industry's most respected organizations.

  • U.S. Coast Guard Licensed & Fully Insured: I operate under the highest federal safety standards as a USCG-licensed captain. Your safety and peace of mind are my top priorities, backed by comprehensive commercial insurance.
  • Fly Fishers International (FFI) Certified Casting Instructor: This rigorous certification is a testament to my technical expertise in fly casting. It means I can provide expert, actionable instruction to improve your casting during our trip—a skill few guides in the region can formally offer. You can verify my certification directly on the FFI website.
  • Federal Permit for Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge: Fishing in the protected waters of the MINWR requires a special federal permit, which I maintain to provide access to some of Mosquito Lagoon's most exclusive areas.
  • Pro-Staff Captain for DOA Fishing Lures: My partnership with an iconic brand like DOA Lures is based on years of in-the-field experience and trust in their products to perform for my clients.
  • Member of the Florida Guides Association: As a member and former Board of Directors member, I am dedicated to the ethical and professional standards that protect both our clients and Florida's world-class fisheries.

Featured In & Published Work

My expertise has been recognized by leading fishing publications and television shows, a testament to my authority and standing within the fishing community.

  • Featured on Addictive Fishing TV: I had the honor of guiding Capt. Blair Wiggins on a nationally broadcast episode of his show, showcasing my approach to sight fishing Mosquito Lagoon.
  • Published Author: I've shared my techniques and insights in articles for renowned magazines like Florida Sport Fishing and Coastal Angler.
  • Featured Speaker at Florida Sportsman Fishing Expo: I have been invited to share my knowledge with hundreds of fellow anglers as a featured speaker at one of Florida's largest fishing expos.

I am one of the few Fly Fishers International Certified Casting Instructors in the area. Becoming an instructor made me a much better fly caster. In turn, I am able to offer advice to my fly fishing clients in a way that non-fly fishing guides cannot. I also give private and on-line casting analysis and instruction through Orlando Fly Casting. While I enjoy fly fishing as much as anyone, I will not hesitate to pick up a spinning rod with an artificial lure if conditions dictate. For me, getting the bite, especially one I can see, is the best part. Nothing beats casting to a tailing redfish or rolling tarpon.

I was fortunate enough to be invited to film an episode of the tv show Addictive Fishing. It was made in the Mosquito Lagoon with Capt. Blair Wiggins. You can see some excerpts from the show below.
